Best Time to Visit:
There’s really no bad time to visit Italy, but I recommend visiting during the shoulder months – May and September.
Peak season runs from June to August, where you’ll see beautiful weather but higher prices and more crowds. Some places (such as the Amalfi Coast) become virtually impassible.
Winters in Italy (December-March) are mild, but destinations such as Lake Como or Positano close their hotels and businesses during the winter months.
Visiting during May or September will offer you beautiful weather with fewer crowds and lower prices!
Getting Around
Getting around Italy is incredibly easy, thanks to their wonderful train system! I highly recommend using ItaliaRail for booking train tickets in advance!
Car rentals can also be a great way to explore the country, especially in regions such as Tuscany!
Travel Requirements
There are currently no special certificates or applications to enter Italy, your passport will do!
If you plan on renting a car during your time in Italy, make sure you get an International Driver’s Permit prior to arrival.

- Respect religious and cultural guidelines when visiting churches by dressing modestly (covering knees and shoulders).
- Utilize public transportation whenever possible. Many cities and towns are walkable as well – if you’re able to walk, walk!
- Respect historical sights such as the Colosseum or Vatican – do not touch ancient monuments as the oil on our fingers can wear down the materials.
- Avoid contributing to overtourism by visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall).
