Nestled atop the white sand beaches of Bávaro Beach, Meliá Punta Cana Wellness Resort is the perfect destination for a relaxing getaway. This wellness-inclusive will rejuvenate your senses and cultivate your soul. Its YHI spa, fitness opportunities, healthy food, and beautiful surroundings will leave you fresh and relaxed by the time you check out. Here’s my experience at Meliá Punta Cana Wellness Resort.

Know Before You Go
Best Time to Go: Punta Cana is warm year round, but gets rainy in the summers. I recommend visiting during the dry season, which is from November-April. We went in January and only experienced one rainy day!
Currency: Dominican peso, but USD is widely accepted as well.
Language: Spanish (The term “qué lo que” which basically translates to “what’s up” is widely used in the DR – you’ll get great service if you greet people this way!)
Power outlets: Type A and B outlets (the same as the US)
Getting There and Getting Around
Meliá will arrange a transfer to/from the airport for you at an extra charge of 30-40 USD. You can also take a taxi for this price.
Once on the resort, you will get around on a golf cart. You can get in touch with the golf cart drivers via WhatsApp, but this is often not necessary as they are everywhere all over the resort and pretty easy to find.
Accommodation
Meliá Punta Cana offers premium rooms and suites, each with a balcony/terrace. Your room selection will impact what is included in your package.
The Level: The premium package. You will receive exclusive access to a restaurant and rooftop bar, an exclusive pool, and will have a wellness concierge. You also receive priority reservations for restaurants and spa treatments.
The Level by Stay Well: Includes everything you get with the Level, plus a spa package. You will receive one complimentary spa treatment each day. If you don’t want to visit the spa each day, you can combine 2 treatments into one day for an even longer session!
We booked The Level Premium Beachside Suite by Stay Well. It was well worth it, the spa here is amazing!
Note: The Beachside and Ocean suites are walking distance to the beach. Otherwise, you will need to take a golf cart to get to the beach.
Amenities
The Beach
Enjoy the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea while sipping a Piña colada and reading a good book. Beach chairs are out 24/7 and are first come, first serve. Each set of two chairs also comes with an umbrella!
The Pools
There are a multitude of pools to choose from here in different areas of the resort. A few are more secluded and quiet than others, so roam around and pick your favorite!
YHI Spa
While I always love the beach, the spa here was probably what I enjoyed most during our stay. We felt so peaceful and relaxed each time we visited.
With the Stay Well spa package, you will receive one complimentary spa treatment per day. Included in this package is a full body massage, shoulder and neck massage, facial, and body wrap. All services include aromatherapy treatment. You can book other services at an additional charge.
The spa also offers a sauna, steamroom, jacuzzi, pools, indoor and outdoor showers, and daybeds to lounge on.
Note: The standard room packages do not include spa treatments, and these will be an additional charge.
Of course, you can’t have a wellness resort without some element of fitness. Meliá Punta Cana offers a gym, yoga studio (on the beach), and fitness classes throughout the day. Bikes are also available to ride through the resort.
Most of these fitness classes take place on the beach or in the pool. You can choose from yoga, pilates, Zumba, aerobics, etc.
The Stay Well rooms include yoga mats, but you can also grab one from the yoga studio on the beach. We brought ours down to the beach each morning for a pilates workout right next to the water.
Events
Upon check-in, you will receive a calendar with the resort’s events for the week.
These events include wine tastings, juice therapies, dance lessons, and live music. There are exclusive events for The Level guests each day.
Excursions
If you’re interested in exploring more of the Dominican Republic, you can book excursions through your resort or online.
Saona Island: We did a day trip to Saona Island, which is the most common day trip from Punta Cana. While the island was beautiful, it has become INCREDIBLY touristy. It was pretty much packed with people and chairs and wasn’t the serene island vibe we were looking for. However, they make fresh piña coladas served in a pineapple that are to die for.
You can also book parasailing, hang-gliding, horseback riding, ziplining, snorkeling- the options are endless.
Note: People will come up to you on the beach offering excursions, but they tend to be unreliable. Stick with your resort or websites such as Viator and Get Your Guide!
Eat and Drink
There are plenty of restaurants to try here – we actually didn’t even have time to try them all over the course of a week. Overall, I would say the food here is okay. Some restaurants we really enjoyed, and others disappointed us. I highly recommend Mar de Sal (Italian/Mediterranean) and Muoi (Vietnamese).
The resort offers a large breakfast buffet in the mornings with tons of options to choose from. The Level guests also have the option of an a la carte breakfast.
The Level guests also have access to a snack bar right next to the beach and pool. The guacamole is fantastic!
You can attend the buffet style restaurants with no reservation, but the a la carte restaurants require a reservation. Your concierge will set these reservations up for you!
Types of Cuisine: Traditional Dominican food, Mediterranean + Italian, Vietnamese, Mexican, International, Seafood, Japanese, Steakhouse
Note: Most restaurants are included with your stay. The Japanese (hibachi) and steakhouse are an additional cost – about 58USD per person.
The resort also boasts a multitude of bars where you can grab a drink. These bars are spread out throughout the resort, so you’ll always have one nearby! Bartenders will also come down to the beach to offer you something to drink.
Service
We found great service here. Everyone was quite friendly and helpful, and they love sharing their culture with you! The Level guests will receive a personal concierge to assist in making reservations for the spa/dinners, as well as make sure you have everything you need. This was very helpful and definitely allowed us to relax more, knowing someone else was taking care of these things for us!
