It’s no secret that the UK is a very rainy place, so make sure you pack an umbrella and prepare for some drizzle! You’ll see the most sunny days during the summer and early autumn (June – September), with the most rainfall occurring in the late autumn and winter.
While it is rainy in the autumn, I found the English countryside absolutely stunning as the leaves changed colors. It’s also much less crowded than it is in the summer months!
Christmastime can also be a magical time to visit, with festive lights all over London and Christmas markets throughout the countryside.
Getting Around
There is a fantastic train system that can transport you all around the UK! The trains run to all the major cities, as well as quite a few smaller towns.
In London, you can utilize the tube for pretty much all transportation. It’s quite easy, you just tap your bank card when entering and exiting the station and you will be charged accordingly.
The countryside can be a bit trickier to navigate, and a car rental or coach might be necessary.
Travel Requirements
A passport with validity through the length of your stay in the UK.
If you are renting a car, you will need a driver’s license. If your license from your home country is printed in English, this is valid in the UK. If printed in another language, you will need to have an International Driver’s Permit.

The UK has a fantastic public transportation system. Utilize this whenever possible to help reduce emissions!
Respect historical monuments and buildings. Even just the oil on our fingers can be damaging to ancient materials.
Travel during the offseason rather during the busy summer months to help decrease overtourism.
