The Netherlands are at their best in the summer months from June to August, where you will find warm sunny weather and little rainfall! You will also see the most crowds during this time.
If you’re interested in seeing the tulips, visit during April-May when they are in their peak bloom!
The rainiest season is the autumn: September – November, but I loved visiting during this time. The golden trees make the canals in Amsterdam look even more beautiful! We did have some drizzly days, but no heavy rains.
Getting Around
If traveling in Amsterdam, I recommend walking or biking. Bike culture in the city is pretty intense, so make sure you feel comfortable before renting one! There’s also a great tram system for further distances.
Passport with three months validity past planned departure from the Schengen area.

SUSTAINABLE + ETHICAL TRAVEL IN THE NETHERLANDS
Respect the canals – make sure your trash makes it into a waste bin. 8,000 pieces of plastic waste are pulled out of the Amsterdam canals on a monthly basis. There are some fantastic projects to keep the canals clear of waste, but it’s better to just prevent it outright!
Use public transportation. The train and tram systems in The Netherlands are fantastic! While taxis and Uber do exist here, they aren’t really necessary (unless traveling with large amounts of luggage).
Do not walk between the tulip fields! This can damage the flower beds. Instead, use the actual paths to walk on – you’ll still get the perfect photo!
