The Bahamas are warm year round, experiencing beautiful temperatures 70-80°F (22-27°C) pretty much all of the time!
Peak season in The Bahamas is from December to April, when weather is warm and dry. This is usually the busiest time of the year, so hotels will fill up quickly.
Hurricane season runs from June to November (although hurricanes can form year round here). Don’t worry too much about this – you’ll usually get several days notice if there’s a hurricane threat, and most hotels offer cancellation policies for hurricanes!
Getting Around
Exuma is a pretty remote island, so there’s hardly any public transportation. It’s also not very walkable, so I highly recommend renting a car while you’re here. Most large car rental companies don’t exist here, so you’ll be booking through a local company. We booked our car through Exuma Car Rentals.
Just keep in mind, you drive on the left side of the road in Exuma!
Travel Requirements
All you need to enter the country is a valid passport!
If you’re renting a car, you will either need your driver’s license from your home country or an international driver’s permit.

SUSTAINABLE + ETHICAL TRAVEL IN EXUMA
Unfortunately, the Bahamas still have a ways to go in terms of sustainable tourism. This means our efforts are even more important when visiting!
Swimming with the pigs is a HUGE thing to do here – but make sure you do it ethically. Pig Beach is located in Staniel Cay, and any other places advertised as “Pig Beach” are likely tourist ploys with questionable ethics. The pigs at Staniel Cay are well cared for and have regulations surrounding them – make sure to abide by these regulations when visiting. (For example, feeding them.)
Local, local, local! Eat local, book tours with locals, etc. Support Exuma’s economy rather than pouring more $$ into large corporations!
