There’s really no bad time to visit Spain, but I recommend visiting during the shoulder months – April/May and September/October.
Peak season runs from June to August, where you’ll see beautiful weather but higher prices and more crowds. This is a great time to visit the islands, but the cities get quite hot.
Winters in Spain (December-March) are mild. This can be a good time to visit Barcelona or Madrid, but a bit too cold for visiting Spain’s islands or coastal towns.
The shoulder seasons are the perfect time for a well-rounded Spanish vacation, for seeing the cities, the coast, and the islands!
Getting Around
The best way to get around Spain is by taking the train or flying. Book your train tickets in advance on RailEurope!
Cities such as Madrid and Barcelona are quite walkable, but the islands are a bit more spread out. We rented a car on Mallorca and I have no idea what we would have done without it!
Travel Requirements
There are currently no special certificates or applications to enter Spain, just your passport will do!
If you plan on renting a car during your time in Spain, make sure you get an International Driver’s Permit prior to arrival.

SUSTAINABLE + ETHICAL TRAVEL IN SPAIN
Respect religious and cultural guidelines when visiting churches by dressing modestly (covering knees and shoulders).
Utilize public transportation whenever possible. Many cities and towns are walkable as well – if you’re able to walk, walk!
Respect historical sights – do not touch ancient cathedrals and monuments as the oil on our fingers can wear down the materials.
Avoid contributing to overtourism by visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall).
